I was cruising the web today when I came upon the old Maxell poster that showed the guy getting blown away by the music.

Took me back to the days when I really enjoyed reading about stereo equipment, planning my next system and stuff like that. I still enjoy good sound, but it’s just different without albums, tapes, etc. Seems more about the music now and less about the equipment. I can pull up virtually any song at any time and just listen. That’s one of the really cool things about digital music… the access to music is unlimited.

I used to spend so much time recording tapes. I used to test the tapes to see which ones sounded the best. Generally speaking I bought Maxell tapes, but have used TDK, Sony, Memorex and probably plenty of crappy ones as well. I made tons of mixed tapes. Even back when I didn’t have a stereo and used yours, the TEAC A-150 (sounds right, but I’m not sure), your Marantz receiver and Phillips turntable. I don’t recall what kind of speakers you had at that time.

Nowadays I listen with headphones more often. I have some “over the ear” headphone like your Koss Pro 4 AA, but I actually use the ear buds more often. Love the way they block out the sound around me and then also bring the sound of the music closer to my ear. The pair I have that I really like are Sennheiser… great brand.

Do you ever just sit and listen to music anymore? Or is it always when you’re doing something else? I listen to a lot of music, but it always seems like it’s in the background. I think I need to spend more time where I’m just listening to the tunes.
