Wisconsin Hockey = Class Act

It definitely puts a smile on my face when I read about an actor or famous athlete doing something nice for someone less fortunate. There are just too many stories about privileged people being turds.

A story on Madison.com really caught my eye. First, because it had to do with UW student athletes doing something positive and second, it was a couple of my favorite players who were doing something nice. The players, Nic Kerdiles, Joel Rumpel, Tyler Barnes and Mark Zengerle were accompanied by coach Mike Eaves on their visit to see Lucy.

Badgers men’s hockey: Lucy Cunningham near and dear to players’ hearts

I’m sure you can read, but to summarize the coach and players went to visit 5 year-old, Lucy Cunningham, who has some health issues and is in the middle of a battery of 30 chemotherapy treatments. Horrible to say the least. They brought flowers, photos, a teddy bear and smiles. Doing something nice for others always makes you feel good and I’m sure considering Lucy’s situation, the feeling was extra special.

I am aware that UW student-athletes from all 23 sports make organized visits to the hospital as part of a community service initiative and that’s how this relationship began. But it appears the boys have gone above and beyond what they’re committed to. Just makes the visits extra special.

Nice work guys… Nice to see the UW Hockey is part of the “good guys.”
